A reovirus from the bedbug, Cimex lectularius.
Large numbers of virus particles were identified by electron microscopy in the epithelial cells of the ventriculus of the bedbug, Cimex lectularius. The morphology of the virus particles and the presence of a segmented double-stranded RNA genome imply that this isolate should be included in the Reoviridae.

The number of reports of human bedbug infestations has dramatically increased worldwide since the mid-1990s. Personal reports by Pest Management Professionals (PMPs) in Israel indicated that in recent years bedbugs have spread all over the country. The aim of this investigation was to study the epidemiology of bedbug infestations and to gain insights into the control of this biting arthropod, b...
متن کاملCondition‐dependent ejaculate production affects male mating behavior in the common bedbug Cimex lectularius
Food availability in the environment is often low and variable, constraining organisms in their resource allocation to different life-history traits. For example, variation in food availability is likely to induce condition-dependent investment in reproduction. Further, diet has been shown to affect ejaculate size, composition and quality. How these effects translate into male reproductive succ...
متن کاملA salivary nitrophorin (nitric-oxide-carrying hemoprotein) in the bedbug Cimex lectularius.
Salivary gland homogenate of the bedbug Cimex lectularius caused vasodilation of the preconstricted rabbit aortic ring in the absence of endothelium. Vasodilation was augmented in the presence of superoxide dismutase and inhibited in the presence of Methylene Blue. Utilization of the Griess reaction indicated the presence of reactive nitrogen equivalents of the order of 337 +/- 57 pg equivalent...
